Il 16 agosto 1933 il Rex giunge a New York con oltre un giorno d’anticipo, sbaragliando ogni record di velocità nella traversata dell’Atlantico.
La conquista del Nastro Azzurro da parte della più grande e leggendaria unità di linea italiana è soltanto uno dei record di questa nave straordinaria, ambasciatrice, tra il 1932 e il 1940, della genialità italiana sui mari del mondo.
Questo documentario, attraverso immagini d’epoca spesso inedite e il racconto di esperti e testimoni, ci permette di imbarcarci nuovamente sul Rex, che Federico Fellini volle consacrare nel suo “Amarcord”, per uno straordinario viaggio nel tempo, lasciandoci assaporare il “transatlantic style” degli anni d’oro della navigazione via mare, raccontando sia le vicende salienti che quelle poco note legate alla storia del Rex, dal suo concepimento alla sua fine.

On the 16th August 1933 the Rex enters New York one day earlier than scheduled, breaking all speed records in the crossing of the Atlantic.
The conquer of the Blue Riband by the most famous and epic Italian liner is just one of the extraordinary features of this ship, ambassador between 1932 and 1940 of the Italian shipbuilding capacities worldwide. 
This documentary, through rare or little known vintage footage and interviews of experts and witnesses, permits to embark again on board the Rex, which Federico Fellini consecrated
in his masterpiece “Amarcord”. It is a unique voyage back in time, the days of the “transatlantic style” and of the golden age of travel by sea, which tells famous episodes as well as the less known connected to the career of the Rex, from her conception to her end.
